Calls on Security Agencies to Ensure Safe Return of Kidnapped Seminarians

Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole has expressed deep shock and outrage over the brutal attack on the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Ivianokpodi, in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, which led to the killing of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the abduction of three young seminarians.

The attack, which occurred on the night of July 10, 2025, has heightened fear and anxiety across communities in Edo North Senatorial District.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Victor Oshioke, Senator Oshiomhole condemned the incident in the strongest terms, describing it as “one incident too many,” and “a calculated attempt to desecrate, demoralise, and dehumanise” both the sacred institution and the community.

He recalled that this same seminary was attacked about nine months ago, when the Rector and a seminarian were abducted. Though the Rector was eventually rescued, the young seminarian was murdered in cold blood. “The Seminary, Auchi Catholic Diocese, and the Ivianokpodi community are yet to fully recover from that horror before being forced to endure another trauma,” he said.

Senator Oshiomhole also referenced reports of a subsequent attack on traders along the Obe Hill axis between Fugar and Odame, where two persons were allegedly killed and others kidnapped. “If true, these events suggest that the bandits are intent on waging a sustained war against our peace-loving communities,” he said.

While acknowledging recent security initiatives by the state government, particularly the engagement, training, and deployment of vigilante groups, Oshiomhole called on the Police, NSCDC, DSS, and other security agencies to act decisively. He urged them to deploy all necessary resources to secure the release of the abducted seminarians and other victims and to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the NSCDC, the Auchi Catholic Diocese, and the entire people of Edo North. He reaffirmed his commitment to using his position to advocate for improved security and better living conditions for his constituents and all Nigerians.
